Cursed (short story)by S. Ravynheart, S.A. Archer
on October 29, 2011
As a private investigator specializing in paranormal problems, London Eyer thought she could handle working for the Sidhe. They couldn’t be any worse than vampires or werewolves or wizards, could they? Oh, how wrong she was. One ‘Touch’ of Sidhe magic and she was cursed. Her only chance to survive is to serve the creep that cursed her against the vicious Changelings out for his blood.
“Cursed” is a thirty-two page story, referred to as an episode by the authors. It goes with a ‘season’ of stories. I’m not big on this idea, especially since I am not a fan of serials to begin with. However, the piece was generally well-written and interesting. I liked that the authors included an introduction to the world and a glossary.
There is a lot of action packed into this short piece. I was pleasantly surprised with the cohesiveness of the plot and the level of details provided. I plan to read more of these, even though I prefer one book rather than so many stories that go together. It clutters up my Kindle app. I can’t complain too much, though, because it was a free download, as are many of the other episodes in the season.
The only other negative besides the length is that I didn’t always follow the main character’s logic. It would take me a while to figure out why London did the things she did.
If you like urban fantasy, this is a series worth checking out. I give it 4 stars, mostly because of the intense action.
